beds and bedrooms

i made this bed from a kit. after much deliberation, i decided to modernize it by painting it gold. i managed to put the two bottom posts in backwards and couldn't get them out, so i just have to go with it. it's less noticeable from the sides. boy, am i annoyed by that. i screwed up the easiest part of the whole production! don't ask about the room. i'm just at the beginning stages of decorating. it still needs loads of accesories. eventually, i'd like to see it done up a la Tony Duquette. i just made the blanket. i think i'll make a matching bolster.

the second photo is a more finished room. i purchased most of this furniture before i'd bought a house to put it in. it's not really a style i'd be inclined to buy now, but it's what i have on hand. it's a cozy little room. also, in need of accessories. i also made the blanket and cushions on this bed. i think i'll work on artwork next. i have plenty of trim and paint to make frames. sorry about the crap photos. my camera is dying, so i had to take these with my ancient, crappy, cell phone camera.

new rug

i just made this rug for a room that i think will be a study. it took a few tries to get it right. the first rug that i made used a slightly heavier yarn and not only was it too heavy for the job, but the colors were all wrong (maroon and royal blue). it didn't work in any room in this house. i'm really pleased with the way that this one turned out. it's really perfect for this room! at the moment, i think this room might be favorite, which is funny because i wasn't quite so keen on it before.

i absolutely hate the colors i chose for the bathroom. i'm thinking of ripping it apart and redoing it. ugh. just the thought is exhausting, but every time i look at it i feel ill.

 

long time no post!

wow! it's been a little while, eh? the holidays kept me busy working on full scale knitting projects and now i'm back to minis! today i'm completing the trim around the windows. i don't particularly enjoy working with such tiny, fragile pieces, but i'm getting it done. Unfortunately, i won't have enough trim to finish the last 2 windows, must order more. after this, all of the work is done and i can focus entirely on decorating. i need to get back in the swing of things and see what's new on ebay.

one day i'll have a finished room to share

... but today is not that day! instead i wanted to show off this lovely bookcase that i won in a giveaway from Amazing Miniatures. i don't win things very often, but as soon as i laid my eyes upon this, i knew that it would be coming to live with me. you can buy one of your very own in the Amazing Miniatures Etsy Shop. this room will either be a den/library or a spare bedroom. i'm still working on finishing up the baseboards, painting the windows and front door, and the interior window trim. i hope to get the windows and front door installed this week. i plan on knitting a few more pieces, blankets, rugs, and maybe a wall hanging, but i'll need to complete my 1:1 scale xmas knitting before that can happen.

operation livingroom

i just finished installing the baseboard between the 2 doors and the trim around the french door. i had a horrible time cutting the trim. getting the angles and the measurements right is just not something that i'm good at. i wasted a good bit of trim trying to figure it out. i'm not really looking forward to completing the trim around the front door and the interior windows. bah. that could take a while. the sideboard is vintage bird's eye maple. i bought it on ebay and i LOVE it! i commissioned the watercolor from the artist, Robert Sciasci. i made the frame myself. i may redo it when i have the patience to deal with cutting trim again. it's a bit large for the sideboard. it will eventually hang on the opposite wall next to the stairs. i have a few more artworks from Robert which i'll show you later. this one is sublime! i feel really honored that he made it for me. now that this room is almost done (i still have to paint the front door and finish the rest of the trim and baseboards), i'm thinking about a sofa. i think that for xmas i'll treat myself to a little something from Minimodernistas. as i mention in the banner, my plan is to combine both period and modern elements.

interior almost completed!

i thought i had posted recently, but apparently not! i'm almost finished with the interiors. all of the moulding has been installed and most of the baseboards. interiors doors are in, too! my great idea of the past week was painting two of my interior doors black. my big mistake was not painting the door trim white so that it woud match the baseboards. bah! so, i have 1 black bedroom door with black trim, 1 black livingroom door with black trim. 1 black bedroom door with white trim, and 1 black kitchen door with white trim. the black and white together looks fantastic! oh, well. i'll know better next time. the french door didn't come with it's own trim, so i ordered some. i discovered today that the trim i purchased, which was also to be used on the interior windows, is too thin. drag. it's the only thing standing between me and total interior decoration domination. i bought an  antique german sideboard today. it's made from bird's eye maple and it's a beauty. posting a photo of it on it's own feels like posting a single item of clothing without showing the whole outfit. perhaps i can wait until i've furnished a room? that could take a while...

baseboards, oh my!

i've been installing baseboards. i wasn't able to get the elusive 45 degree angle to work on these, so i'm installing without them. it worked pretty well on the moulding, but i just can't for the life of me figure it out here. and besides, one would have to be up in the corners with a flashlight to notice it. so, i'm going to let this one go. and, wonder of wonders, my lighting still works! my junction splice is a little wonky, but i can always replace that. a reader, kathy, requested that i post pics of the entire house. request granted! i'm waiting for my interior doors to arrive. after i have those, i can finish the baseboards. in the meantime, there's more stuff that i want to do with the bathroom. funny that i should start with my least favorite room in this or any house! bathroom pics coming shortly!
